Zelenski, Meloni, Benzema and Lewandowski, new caganers
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and the new Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, join the traditional caganers with famous faces this Christmas, which are also joined by footballers Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski.
The company Caganer.com, based in Torroella de Montgrí (Girona), annually conceives and designs these traditional Catalan nativity figures, originally a shepherd defecating in the field and related to good luck.
The Alós brothers, Marc and Sergi are in charge of the company and, for next Christmas, they have devised forty novelties, among which Zelenski, Meloni, Benzema and Lewandoski stand out, but also other Spanish and international politicians, singers and characters from fiction.
Among those debuts appear the leaders of PP and Vox, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Santiago Abascal, while the caganer of Carlos III has been updated to adapt it after becoming monarch and that of the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, is in the creation phase.
Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Camilo are incorporated as singers and, from fiction, Eleven, from the series Strange things; Gandalf, from the trilogy The Lord of the rings, Popeye either doctor strange.
Marc Alós has spoken about the prospects for sales that "football caganers will surely throw a lot" and has recalled that both Benzema, who wears the recently won Ballon d'Or, and Lewandoski "are giving very good performance in their teams".
International politics believes that it can give them "a surprise" and "comics, movies and music never fail either", after which it underlines that this year's collection is "very balanced".
Football looks one more year towards the women's category by incorporating the Barcelona player Aitana Bonmatí, who joins her partner Alexia Putellas as a caganer.
The company from Girona that creates this entire universe currently has nearly six hundred figures, handcrafted one by one.
Among the best-selling caganers in history are those of Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Carles Puigdemont and Leo Messi, in addition to the classic Catalan nativity scene.
The company currently has three stores in Barcelona, one in Madrid and one in Girona, in addition to the permanent exhibition hall at its headquarters in Torroella de Montgrí.
