The Tarragona hotel industry reverses the bad forecasts that were for this autumn

After a more than good summer, the hotel industry faced this autumn with not very optimistic forecasts, largely due to the high inflation that threatened to reduce consumption. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our bars and restaurants have not noticed a lower influx of customers at all, despite the bad economic times, quite the opposite.

The president of the Hospitality Association of Spain, José Luis Yzuel, points out that the behavior of the client of the almost 200,000 bars and restaurants in Spain "continues to be very good" despite the "very bad omens" that there were for after the summer.

Billing continues to advance, 2.6% according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics for August compared to the year 2019, although some changes in consumption are being noted due to price increases such as the reduction of the average ticket.

Reservations are also having a good behavior and with less than two months to go before the key dates of the Christmas holidays "there are already establishments with full paper", assures José Luis Yzuel.

And although he believes that the beginning of next year will be tough, he clings to the resilience and adaptation capacity of a sector that has just healed its wounds after two years of the pandemic.

Since 2017, Carlos Andrés Pérez Sánchez has managed a restaurant specializing in Peruvian food in Madrid, Oceanika, in which the number of reservations and the movement of clients -not only regulars at the premises-, leads him to think that "we have reached the true normality” after the covid pandemic. Every morning he fills his room, on weekends they are full capacity and he has closed group meals for the days before Christmas for scores of diners. "People are responding and we are very happy," he explains, aware of having overcome and survived the pandemic and facing the current situation of rising costs, especially the price of electricity and gas.

Another interesting fact is that 35% of Spaniards eat in bars and restaurants at least once a week, which is 4% more than a year ago, according to the fourth report by Aecoc Shopperview 'Consumption inside and outside the home ' . According to this study, 26% of those surveyed order food at home at least once a week, which is 3% more than the previous year.

The report also reveals a change in the habits of Spanish consumers, since 39% of them state that they go out less for dinner and instead eat more at midday.
