Gas explosion in a restaurant on La Rambla Nova
A loud roar has shaken this Sunday afternoon in a good part of the northern area of the Rambla Nova. A gas explosion, confirmed by Bombers, inside the Koyo Japanese restaurant, in the section closest to the Balcó del Mediterrani, has caused the glass of the shop window to break and half a dozen people were injured, although the severity is unknown. The first reports speak of apparently not very serious injuries.
Calls to 112 have begun to come in at 3:57 p.m. and Bombers has activated 7 crews, the Guàrdia Urbana de Tarragona several patrols and the SEM has also taken ambulances for possible injured people (half a dozen would be the provisional figure).
The causes at this time are uncertain, but there are crystals that can fall and others that have broken on impact with the sidewalk. The rooms of this premises should also be checked to confirm that the explosion has not affected them.
Bombers has reported that there does not seem to be any risk beyond the material damage caused by the explosion and that there would be neither fire nor smoke. Local supplies have been cut to avoid further unforeseen events.
The injured people could have been employees of the premises, cooks, and the explosion could have also affected the lateral part of the premises on Roger de Llúria street.
