Authorized the purchase of trains for the tram of the Costa Daurada
The Government of the Generalitat has declared (today, Tuesday) the first phase of the Camp de Tarragona train-tram, which is to connect Cambrils and Vila-seca, to be a public service. The measure implies the attribution of the provision of the service to Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) and allows the public company to buy seven mobile units for 54 million euros, and contract maintenance for fifteen years for another 22.05 million.
Finally, FGC is empowered to carry out the necessary studies so that the Department of Territory can establish the operating conditions and the financing needs for the provision of the service. All this is one more step in the implementation of the public transport system.
Last week, Territori awarded the construction project for the section between Cambrils and Vila-seca. The document will define the necessary actions for the implementation of a tram system, 14.6 kilometers long, in the municipalities of Cambrils, Salou and Vila-seca, based on the informative and environmental impact studies approved by the Department.
Currently, 90% of mobility in Camp de Tarragona is internal and the global modal share of public transport is 18% in the central area.
The main objective of the new network is to increase the modal share of public transport to 25% through the establishment of fast services for interurban mobility, accessible in the centers and neighborhoods of the cities and connectors of the strategic poles of activity of this area, for the mobility of both residents and visitors.
